Design of a 0.2~40 GHz Ultra-Wideband Multi-channel Receiver

A 0.2~40 GHz ultra-wideband 8-channel receiver was designed and fabricated. At the same time, a test system is built to test the parameters of gain, noise figure, amplitude and phase consistency and so on for the receiver. The receiver is the most important sub-system of the radar system, and its parameters directly affect the performance of the radar system. Wideband, large dynamic, high stability and low noise are the common requirements of the modern receivers, and are also the development direction of radar receivers. This paper first introduces the application of multi-channel receiver, gives the key parameters of receiver and then Ultra-Wideband receiver is mainly studied. The scheme of the proposed receiver is given and the design of the receiving channel is described in detail. Then, the design of the main performance parameters such as noise figure, dynamic range, and amplitude and phase consistency is emphatically discussed. Finally, the proposed receiver realizes a noise figure of less than 18dB at 40 GHz. And during the dynamic range of input power from -82dBm to +15dBm, the receiver can maintain linear operation. The isolation between channels of 8-channel receiver is better than 45dB. In the case of 40dB receiving gain, the amplitude consistency within any 500MHz bandwidth is ≤3dB, and the phase consistency ≤13°.The specifications and performance of the proposed ultra-wideband multi-channel receiver meet many radar-related application requirements.
