Design of a 92 GHz-96 GHz Power Amplifier

This paper presents a novel approach to design a power amplifier over 92 GHz-96 GHz. A transition from a waveguide to microstrip line is demonstrated, which has the advantages of low loss, easy assembling and maintenance. A passive power amplifier structure has been manufactured and measured. The insertion loss of the transition structure is about 0.5 dB over 75 GHz-110 GHz. Furthermore, we design a power supply circuit for the amplifier, and it can improve the stability of the DC voltage. Finally, an optimized solid-state amplifier is manufactured and measured. The measured results show that the output saturated power is better than 32.2 dBm over 92 GHz-96 GHz band. The simulated results agree well with the theoretical analysis.
