On Optimizing MEC Enabled Monitoring Systems

In recent years, the use of sensor networks has grown very much, a large number of sensors are being introduced everywhere, which are used for various purposes - for example, monitoring the state of the air. In this article, we have described a proposal for IoT-based monitoring systems. Given the imperfection of the sensors, that is, the inaccuracy of measurements, it is necessary to optimize some parameters. The paper proposes a method for optimizing the threshold number of sensors that can detect an event of interest. This threshold-based detection scheme acts as a local decision-making mechanism and is used to implement the concept of multi-access computing. In turn, multi-access edge computing allows data from sensors to be processed close to users. This reduces system latency, provides faster analysis and immediate response to changing environmental conditions, reduces the amount of data transferred, and improves system security. We mainly consider air quality monitoring systems. However, the application range of the presented results is much wider.
