Prediction of Milling Tool Wear Based on Digital Simulation

Computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools are crucial for intelligent manufacturing, and tool wear prediction during their cutting process is essential for ensuring workpiece processing quality and efficiency. This study focuses on the tool wear prediction of milling process based on digital simulation. By combining Solidworks and Abaqus software, three-dimensional models of the cutting tool, tool holder fixture and workpiece are constructed, and multi-physical field dynamic simulation of the milling process is conducted. A tool wear prediction model is introduced to predict the milling tool wear by using the simulation results. The method is validated through experiments set up on a HAAS CNC machining center and demonstrates high accuracy, which effectively addresses the problem of predicting tool wear during machining.
