Numerical Analysis of the Variability of the Shielding Effectiveness of Gaskets Characterized by the MIL DTL 83528G method

This paper provides an overview of some full-wave simulations that were conducted to investigate the variability in the shielding effectiveness of gaskets, when characterized by the MIL DTL 83528G method. In the simulations, the shielding effectiveness is calculated based on near-field sensors at different distances as well as far-field sensors which are basically at an infinite distance. Moreover, these sensors are placed according to a half circle to represent antennas at different angles. The study reveals that the variability over the different angles is significant and increases with increasing frequency and increasing distance to the opening of the shielded room used in the MIL DTL 83528G method.
