Extracting High Speed Refresh Current for DDR5 Module based on Network Parameter Theory

In this paper, we proposed an extracting method of immeasurable chip-level current based on printed circuit board network parameters and the measurement data on the surface mount device component. To get the accurate current consumed in chip, that is chip-level current, the interposer was designed and applied. And the power distribution network of the chip was modeled by measuring S-parameters and the power distribution network for printed circuit board, and the package were modeled using the numerical analysis tool. The transient simulation was performed to verify the proposed method. The verification was completed at the simulation level by applying the proposed method to the data obtained from the simulation results. As a result, the chip-level current was extracted by applying the method to the actual dynamic random access memory on the 2 rank by 4 registered dual-in line module sample. This method can be applied to all memory products that can mount an interposer.
