Electronic circuits implementation and simulation based on cellular automata

This work introduces a different concept of electronic circuits implementation and simulation using the theory of cellular automata systems. A two-dimensional cellular automaton called “WireWorld” is used to perform the implementation and simulation of digital electronic circuits, from simple components such as logic gates, wires and diodes to complex constructions like adders, multipliers and even simple memory cells. The system, presented in this paper allows testing and simulation of different combinations of circuits under different conditions by placing them in the simulation area of the application. Also, different one-dimensional cellular automata evolution rules can be implemented and tested using WireWorld principle of operation.
