A first simplified approach to estimate the probability of an induced voltage on a component in a vehicle

The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to estimate the probability of failure of an electrical/electronic component in a structure due to a radiating electromagnetic source. This paper presents an early approach to estimate this probability on a simplified component, a dipole antenna, which is embedded in a simplified automotive electromagnetic structure as a semi-closed cavity. Two approaches will be compared to estimate this probability. A first one consists of separating the dipole antenna simulation from the semi-closed cavity simulation. And a second is to study the separate problem in a probabilistic way, allowing us to estimate a probability based on a combination of both separate simulation results. The second approach proposes a more accurate estimation of the failure probability than the first one, by using probabilistic methods to consider a larger number of cases despite the increased simulation time.
