Optimization of sensing and injecting units for a common-mode active EMI filter

More electrical aircraft and now electrical propulsion aircraft are currently developed to target a sustainable aviation industry. Power electronic converters will be key component for future aviation electrical architecture. Wide band gap semiconductor devices generate high electromagnetic common-mode (CM) emissions but today’s passive filtering solutions for aeronautic applications represent a significant part of the total converter weight and volume. Digital active filters are investigated and this paper presents a feasibility study about the implementation of a common-mode digital active electromagnetic interference filter (DAEF) on a high power chain. After presenting the components of a DAEF, the paper focuses on the models that can be used to better apprehend the design of such a subsystem, especially for the sensing and injection units which are key components in the filter performance.
