Power Systems Modeling

Power system analysis consists of two stages: modeling and solving. The modeling stage involves transforming a power system's physical, business, and financial aspects into a mathematical model using a suitable data structure. The solving stage focuses on developing algorithms to find solutions for the given model. It is crucial to build the power system model in a way that aligns with the developed algorithms to ensure accurate and efficient solution. Graph modeling is employed to represent the intricate relationships in power system physics. This chapter explores two graph representations: the node‐breaker model and the bus‐branch model, created using defined vertex, edge, and graph schemas. The graph structure and attributes outlined in this chapter can be extended to accommodate various power system analyses discussed in subsequent chapters. The first analysis presented is the graph‐based parallel topology analysis, which encompasses substation‐level and system‐level topology analysis implemented through graph queries. The aim is to reduce the node‐breaker graph model into the bus‐branch graph model.
