Review on Temperature Compensation Control Method for Giant Magnetostrictive Actuator

Giant Magnetostrictive Actuator (GMA) is a precision driving device that utilizes the magnetostrictive effect of Giant Magnetostrictive Materials (GMM) to achieve precise displacement output at the micronanometer level. It exhibits remarkable characteristics such as large output displacement, fast response speed, and high driving accuracy. However, the performance of GMMs in terms of magnetostrictive behavior varies significantly at different temperatures, and the working current of GMA shows different frequencies and magnitudes within a certain range. The copper and eddy current losses generated during long-term operation will result in thermal accumulation within GMA. At the micro-nano scale, environmental temperature and working conditions have a significant influence on the positioning accuracy of the GMA. Therefore, adopting temperature compensation control measures becomes imperative to enhance the positioning accuracy and stability of the GMA. To address this issue, this paper conducts an analysis of the structure and working principles of the GMA to investigate the causes and effects of heat generation and influencing factors of GMA. Furthermore, it presents a comprehensive summary of seven temperature compensation control methods for the GMA, including their principles, advantages, disadvantages, and application scenarios.
