Method for High-Speed Fiber Optic Data Transfer Channel Development Using Spartan-6 Transceivers

The article considers the method of using multi-gigabit transceivers, which are part of the Spartan-6 FPGA, to build a data transfer channel using optical fiber as a physical medium. An example of applying the described method to create a data transmission channel with a maximum speed of up to 2.5 Gbps for operation as part of a digital wide-format printer is shown. FPGA families from various manufacturers that include transceivers with suitable speeds are listed. A variant of adding service commands to the channel for optimal implementation of encoding and decoding is given. A variant of the hardware implementation of the transmission channel and the results of modeling the transmission of test signals through an optical fiber are shown. Information is given on the successful application of the method in the development of mass-produced commercial products.
