Design and Implementation of Intelligent Safety Services for Personal Mobility Devices

Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) such as electric scooters, has provided last mile mobility services that public transportation cannot offer. However, accidents caused by inexperienced driving and illegal parking have become a big problem. Previous research has attempted to address these issues using various sensors, but they have limitations. To solve these problems, we propose an Intelligent PMDs Safety Service (IPSS) that includes four services: Online License Issuance, Intelligent Driving Pattern Analysis, Road Hazard Notification, and Intelligent Safety Parking. We developed the system by applying it to an actual electric scooter. We operated an electric scooter supporting the developed IPSS service within a university campus and confirmed its effectiveness. The proposed IPSS can contribute to improving the safety of PMDs and resolving the parking problems related to PMDs.
