Hybrid Generation Scheme for Delivering Irrigation Loads and Other Critical Loads With Smart IoT Based Control

Hybrid generation involving wind and solar power is gaining popularity for both, grid-connected as well as isolated generations, on account of its flexibility to operate under different environmental conditions. Apart from focusing on increasing the dependence on hybrid renewable resources, the exploration of load control strategies also plays a crucial role in ensuring an efficient and sustainable operation. In this regard, this article puts forward a novel approach that focuses on both the crucial aspects, i.e., developing a strategy for enhancing the utilization of renewable resources (specifically the wind power generation system within the hybrid generation system) as well as an IoT-based smart load control strategy taking into account critical and irrigational loads. For the wind power generation system, a novel dynamic set reference is put forward which enables power generation for a wider range of wind speeds. In order to meet the critical loads along with the irrigational loads, an IoT-based smart load control strategy, utilizing data distribution service communication protocol, is put forward. The devised load strategy requires minimal human intervention, conserves water and electricity, can be remotely operated, and enables real-time control of multiple critical loads. The simulations backed by experimental results on a laboratory prototype validate the claims of successful operation of the hybrid generation scheme for secluded power generation to meet critical and irrigational loads and their proper management.
