With the growing demand for higher energy efficiency and safety in explosive (Ex) atmospheres, there is a high potential to use line-start permanent magnet synchronous machines (LS-PMSMs) in such areas as in various other industrial applications. However, to ensure high-energy efficient LS-PMSM's safe and effective operation in potentially explosive atmospheres (hazardous locations), it is crucial to comply with the relevant standards and guidelines. Therefore, the analysis highlights the need for compliance with the relevant standards and guidelines to ensure the safe and efficient operation of LS-PMSMs in hazardous locations. This paper primarily focuses on the analysis of LS-PMSMs through various experimental tests, which are conducted following relevant standards. The objective is to ensure the enhanced safety of LS-PMSMs and explore their potential use in hazardous locations and for future advancements in test methods. The findings of this paper can be useful for researchers, engineers, and professionals involved in the design, installation, and operation of LS-PMSMs in hazardous locations.
