Research on SiPIN Detection Efficiency Calibration

In contrast to the traditional experimental approach to detector detection efficiency calibration, the use of a monoenergetic X-ray radiation device for efficiency calibration is the preferred alternative for X-ray detector calibration because of the capability of measuring multiple energy points and the advantages of adjustable energy and outstanding monochromaticity of the monoenergetic X-ray radiation device. In this work, the experimental calibration of SiPIN detectors is performed in the (5~40)keV monoenergetic X-ray radiation devices with a calibration range of from 8 to 25 keV, and the relative error between the experimental calibration results and the simulation results is within ±6
^%
. 23 keV and 25 keV results are 6.28% and −5.01%, respectively. The high relative error is due to the fact that the detection efficiency of the standard detector, HPGe, in the energy range, is more than 93 %, resulting in a high total photon count of the X-ray beam, while the detection efficiency of the SiPIN detector in the energy range is less than 30% and the total photon count is low, which causes a large relative error between the experimental and simulation results. This work has demonstrated the feasibility of the SiPIN detector in measuring soft X-rays and provided a guarantee for the calibration of the detector in the low energy range.
