3D Printing Technology Support the Creative Design of Traditional Stationery Structures

China has been vigorously advocating the development of cultural and creative industries, but the development of creative industries cannot be separated from the cultivation of excellent design talents. However, currently, there is a lack of cultural and creative design-led courses. Therefore, this research explored the teaching methods of cultural and creative industries in universities through innovative training projects for university students. This research takes traditional Chinese stationery as the research object and leads the student team to explore creative design products in the field of stationery that meet the needs of contemporary consumers through thematic inspiration and guidance in the training program. Through the understanding of the elements and characteristics of Chinese traditional stationary, the main elements of the traditional “Four Treasures of Traditional Stationery” were reinterpreted and redesigned through the combination of 3D printing technology. The students considered the needs of young people while maintaining the traditional writing function of the four treasures. Through the process of design and development, the students used the traditional Chinese architectural tenon structure to combine various components. With the support of 3D printing technology, the newly designed products not only have the writing use of traditional stationery but also have various functions such as decoration, storage, and lamps. The final finished product enabled students to practice the importance of all aspects, from the survey process to the finished product adjustment. The participating students learned about the characteristics of traditional Chinese stationery and the innovative design methods of cultural and creative products.
