Comparative Analysis of Performance of Different Speed Controllers for FOC Based SVPWM fed PMSM Drive

The Proportional Integral (PI) controller is widely used controller for Field Oriented Control (FOC) based Per-manent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives. However, the PI controller has some drawbacks, including a high initial peak overshoot and higher settling time to unexpected load disturbances. The conventional PI performance is improved by intelligent algorithms like Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy In-ference System (ANFIS). ANN adopts the changes in system faster and improves system performance to required level, but implementing ANN has drawback that it uses Back-Propagation algorithm which is complicated and takes more time for training. The FIS based speed controller provides an advantages like faster response and less non-linearity issue, also it does not require accurate mathematical calculations. The merits of ANN and FIS can be combinedly obtained by ANFIS based speed controller. In this paper, the comparison of four different controllers (PI, ANN, FIS and ANFIS) for speed control of FOC based Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) fed PMSM drive is presented. The performance in terms of rise time, settling time, peak time and peak overshoot of these four Controller was compared and the whole system model was simulated using the MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results for all the speed controllers' based PMSM drives are shown and examined. From simulation results, it is clear that ANFIS controller provides better speed responses than the PI, ANN and FIS based controller.
