Coordinated deployment of electric minibus taxis to enhance solar photovoltaic hosting capacity of residential networks

High penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar photovoltaic (PV) on low voltage (LV) networks typically increases the severity of the technical challenges on the network. Management of the arising impacts is crucial in enhancing the increased adoption of technologies such as solar PV. In this paper, we exploit the complementarity between residential solar PV generation and electric minibus taxi (EmBT) charging to mitigate the arising voltage impacts. By exploiting the EmBTs' operations and the solar PV generation, we demonstrate, using a quasi-dynamic hosting capacity (HC) analysis, how the introduction of EmBTs at strategic points, depicting end-of-route charging, on the network could alleviate voltage rise and enhance the feeder PV HC. This study is based on a stochastic HC assessment tool with the capacity to handle probabilistic loads and stochastic DER location in a multi-energy system. The study highlights the existing multiple objectives that arise during complementary DER deployment. Findings point to the need for careful selection of connection points in multi-DER energy systems.
