Evaluation of the Light-QP measurement method for extended measurements

The high number of inverter-based technologies deployed in the low-voltage grid, such as photovoltaic inverters and electric vehicle charging stations, generate high amplitude distortions in the supraharmonic band (9-150 kHz) The Light Quasi-Peak (Light-QP) method has been recently presented to overcome the limitations of the CISPR 16 method in the assessment of the supraharmonic disturbances of grid measurements. It is computationally efficient, and it has shown good results for measurements in 3-second intervals. This paper investigates the feasibility of the Light-QP method for quantifying the supraharmonic grid distortions in extended measurement intervals (10 min periods). The results are compared to CISPR 16 standard, in terms of a statistical analysis of the differences in the results obtained with both methods, together with the required computational cost and memory resources. Two aggregation strategies are also analyzed. The results of the study show that the Light-QP method provides results similar to the CISPR 16 standard, requiring only 11% of memory resources and 5% of the CPU processing time, with respect to the CISPR 16.
