Virtualisation and management technologies of smart substations

New challenges to the energy system especially in the distribution grid due to increasing number of distributed energies sources and consumers with electro mobility and heat pumps require more observability and controllability in the lower voltage levels. This paper presents an engineering process with virtualization and management technologies to utilize plug & play installation, maintenance support, and update rollouts. The proposed concept is deployed using Docker as a virtualization technology and Kubernetes as a cloud and microservice platform. A number of scenarios evaluate the identified requirements for such an engineering process.
