The Impact of Ambidextrous Learning on Organizational Routines with Environmental Uncertainty

Organizational routines are important ways for enterprises to optimize their organization and adapt to external environments. In complex and dynamic environments, it is crucial to select appropriate strategies for the evolution of organizational routines. This paper divides environmental uncertainty into two dimensions: complexity and dynamism, and further refines it into four different environmental states. Based on simulation research using the NK model, this study investigates the applicability of exploitation, exploration, and balanced learning strategies in these four environmental states. The results show that exploitation is recognized as a more suitable strategy in simple stable and simple dynamic environments, while a balanced learning strategy fits better in complex stable environments. In complex dynamic environments, an exploration strategy should be adopted.
