The Solid Protocol and Its Potential for Open Science

The Solid effort¹ is a web decentralization project, led by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, aimed at decoupling data from services so that users can be in full control of their personal data, and developers get a standards-based approach for (web) development. The motivation for this project has its origins in the massive consolidation of personal information in the hands of a few powerful web platforms. Similar concerns exist in scholarly communication where a small group of publishers provides infrastructure that covers the entire research life cycle.
