How to Narrow the Last Mile of Cultural Services: An Innovative Way on Public Culture Cloud Platforms

Similar to Europeana and the Digital Public Library of America, public culture cloud platforms in China have made remarkable achievements in integrating diverse cultural heritage resources and activities. The active launch and stable operation of these platforms have provided a new channel for users to conduct digital readings and enjoy exhibitions online. More attractively, users can participate in diversified interest groups to share their works with friends and seek cooperation opportunities. Thanks to these cloud-based platforms, the concept of “last mile” has found its ground with the previous problem of cultural supply for grassroots people in remote and rural areas being solved. Considering the innovative approach the platforms provide in narrowing such “last mile” of public cultural services, this paper contributes to the research and practice field by first illustrating the vision, supply, service and content of such innovative practice in China, before discussing directions for future work at last.
