Modeling LTE MIMO Antenna Systems on Vehicles

This paper continues analyzing the performance of our previous work in [1] for 4x4, 4x2, and 2x2 LTE MIMO antenna systems. These systems were studied in Frankfurt, Germany which is an urban environment on a vehicle with metal and glass roof top for a virtual road around the city. The first part of this research paper shows the simulation results using FEKO software on vehicle that analyzes spatial and polarization diversity on Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) for two quarter-wave monopoles operating at 2110 MHz. Next, the ECC is analyzed as a function of hemispherical coverage and angular resolution. The second part of this paper presents throughput results for a virtual route utilizing measured radiation patterns of MIMO architectures of 2x2, 4x2, and 4x4 on an SUV with metal roof and glass roof. The measured radiation patterns are imported to Altair’s WinProp software that can provide results for electromagnetic wave propagation inside the city on a virtual route and RF cellular network planning for base stations.
