Evaluation of Complex Measurement Systems Using A Gaussian Process Interpolation Approach

We recently developed a new universal validation procedure for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) measurement systems based on Gaussian Process modelling (GP). GP is resource-efficient, allowing comprehensive coverage of the SAR measurement system with a reasonable number of test configurations. The new method is especially useful for validating SAR array systems that have a very high number of degrees of freedom due to the many hundreds of sensors in the array. It was recently adopted into the committee draft of IEC 62209-3 as a replacement of the previous validation method. The results of applying the GP-based validation approach to the validation of a scanning system and an array system are described and discussed. The results demonstrate that the method is effective in improving the quality, reliability, and reproducibility of the assessment of wireless devices conformity with safety regulations, which benefits the public, government agencies and industry alike.
