Modeling Inrush Currents in Medium-Voltage Grids

This paper investigates inrush-current events during reconnection of medium-voltage grid segments for a conventional grid and a converter fed microgrid setup. A transformer saturation and grid-forming converter model were developed to reproduce the inrush-current behavior observed during measurements. Worst-case parameters affecting the inrush current were derived.
