Islamization of Engineering Education: A Control Systems Theory Perspective

The objective of Islamizing engineering education is to develop a comprehensive educational system that integrates modern engineering knowledge with Islamic principles, empowering individuals to fulfill their responsibilities to Allah, society, and themselves. However, the implementation of this idea faces challenges due to the limited availability of Islamized teaching materials, educators' lack of expertise, and impractical integration methods. This paper proposes the integration of Islamic values with the fundamental terminologies used in Control Systems, a subject taught to engineering students at the diploma and degree levels. The Islamization of control systems is achieved through a block diagram model that elucidates the concept of Taqwa in Islam, complemented by the infusion of Islamic teachings and values supported by Al-Quran verses and Hadith. This integration provides a unique opportunity for students to simultaneously grasp control systems and Islamic terminologies. Furthermore, it enables engineering educators to fulfill the obligation of da'wah by incorporating the teaching of Islam during lectures. Importantly, by integrating Islamic beliefs into engineering education and practice, future engineers can develop a holistic understanding of their professional responsibilities, encompassing the ethical, social, and humanitarian dimensions of engineering. This approach fosters the development of engineers who not only possess technical expertise but also embody the Islamic values and principles that contribute to the betterment of society. The model presented in this paper welcomes feedback, particularly from Islamic studies educators and scholars, to further enhance its effectiveness and applicability.
