Automatic Power Factor Measurement and Correction Using MyDAQ

There are several advantages accruing to a power system with power factor correction. In this paper, automatic power factor correction with measurement of real power, reactive power, and apparent power. The overall losses in the system can be minimized. The advantages of power factor correction extend beyond the balance sheet; there is also a significant benefit to the environment, which means the utility may reduce its carbon footprint and help the environment. In view of these, the measurement of the power factor is very essential and whenever it goes below a critical value, it should be corrected immediately. In this paper, the measurement of the power factor and corrections if required are discussed. These are accomplished with the help of LabViewsoftware and interfacing hardware called my date acquisition (myDAQ) device.
