IoT based Solar Photo Voltaic Fault Detection System

IoT enables exchanging data with other devices & systems over internet. It makes remote monitoring of Solar PV system simple and easy. This paper focuses on integration of IoT with solar panel to monitor them so as to detect faults in the panel easily, quickly and remotely. PV Monitoring is useful as it can increase life of protective devices and can help to isolate the faulty section from the healthy section of power system. PV system monitoring is accomplished by the use of sensors, Wi-Fi module, Arduino, microcontroller and display server. Arduino is used for programming. Once the data is uploaded on internet by Wi-Fi module and microcontroller, one has access to the parametric values obtained at the PV panel. The results are obtained on ThingSpeak server. The output is received in form of data of various parameters like PV voltage, temperature, humidity on ThingSpeak server in form of graphical representation. The paper presents an algorithm for fault detection and its display using temperature sensor and display server equipped in the IoT supported Solar PV system.
