A Single-Stage Electronic Lighting Driver for a Deep Ultraviolet LED Disinfection and Sterilization Lamp

Deep ultraviolet light-emitting diode (LED) is a new type of lighting source in the space purification and surface sterilization markets. This paper presents and develops a novel electronic lighting driver for a deep ultraviolet LED disinfection and sterilization lamp. The main circuit combines a buck converter with a flyback converter into a single-stage single-switch non-isolated buck-flyback AC-DC power converter with power factor correction. Furthermore, the proposed electronic lighting driver recovers the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer and utilizes wide bandgap SiC Schottky diodes as the output diodes to improve the circuit efficiency. The magnetizing inductor inside the presented ACDC power converter is designed to operate at discontinuous-conduction-mode (DCM) for naturally achieving power-factor-correction (PFC). A 3. 6W(90V/40mA)-rated single-stage prototype driver for a deep ultraviolet LED disinfection and sterilization lamp has been developed and implemented. From the experimental results at an input utility-line voltage of 110V, the measured power-factor (PF) is larger than 0.9 and the measured totalharmonic-distortion (THD) of input current is smaller than 18%. In addition, the measured ripple factor of the output voltage is smaller than 1% and ripple factor of the output current is smaller than 4%. Furthermore, high circuit efficiency (>90%), reduced number of circuit components, and circuit cost savings are achieved in the proposed single-stage electronic lighting driver for a deep ultraviolet LED disinfection and sterilization lamp.
