A Model Checking Based Software Requirements Specification Approach for Embedded Systems

With the development of embedded techniques, embedded systems are becoming more and more complex along with complex requirements. Automatic software requirements specification approach is urgently required for embedded systems. Existing researches on automatic specification do not address timed-systems which are required in embedded systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a time related model checking based approach for software requirements specification in embedded systems. It tries to use a time related model checking technique to give a possible path of software behaviors to achieve expected effects. Specifically, this approach involves creating a domain-specific device library, expressing the system requirements, modeling the embedded system using timed automata, and deriving software requirements specifications through reachability analysis in the model checking tool UPPAAL. Additionally, a case study is conducted on a sun search control system to verify the feasibility of this approach.
