Energy-Efficient Geographic Routing with an Autonomous Mobile Sink Under Partial Coverage

In wireless sensor networks, prolonging network lifetime is a hot issue. Geographic-based routing has gained much attention in recent years due to its low energy consumption and latency; however, it also suffers from energy imbalance. In addition, there are multiple sensors in the network covering the same monitoring point, which can cause redundant repetition of data and large consumption of energy, such networks therefore need to be managed efficiently. In this paper, we propose an autonomous mobile sink, which effectively extends the lifetime of the nodes close to the sink and enhance the network throughput. In addition, the network management under partial coverage is considered, which greatly extends the network lifetime and improves the packet delivery ratio.
