An Investigation into Measurement Anomaly for Dual-Feeder and Dual Energy Metered Customer

Recently, the electricity market has become more complex because the energy flow is no longer unidirectional to the customers. Hence, a well-designed measurement system is mandatory, not only to measure energy accurately, but also to avoid transaction conflict for the customers. This paper presents the results of an investigation by PLN regarding a customer measurement anomaly in Central Java. The measurement devices recorded unusual energy transferred to and from the customer. The customer was burdened with a huge electricity bill because the customer was not an authorized PLN prosumer. However, there was no evidence that the customer’s internal power plants could generate the recorded amounts of energy. The investigation revealed several factors that contributed to the anomaly. This analysis can aid engineers in designing proper measurement systems, particularly in today’s complex markets with various tariffs and calculations, to prevent similar issues from arising in the future
