Power Quality Assessment on Priority Industrial Customers of Java-Bali Grid

Based on data managed by the Priority Account Executive (PAE) of the Indonesian state electric utility, PLN Head Office, there were 55 of the 238 priority industrial customers have complaints of voltage dips that interfere with the business production process. These customers’ complaints indicated that there was a problem with the quality of the power supplied by PLN. Improving the quality of electric power will be able to increase customer engagement with increasing customer satisfaction. However, currently, there is no firm comprehensive power quality assessment procedure, so it is necessary to study power quality problems for all significant industrial customers in Java-Bali grid to determine the level of power quality, including mapping of power quality data records, customer complaints, and mitigation. Power quality problems analyzed in this study include transient, under-voltage, voltage sag, over voltage, voltage swell, and interruption. Based on the 438 incidents of power quality problems that have the potential to cause disturbances during one year of recorded data, the number of customer complaints obtained from PAE data is only 57 complaints. From the analysis results, 84.2% of customer complaints correspond to the incidence of power quality problems, while 15.8% of customer complaints do not correspond to the incidence of power quality problems. Furthermore, further research needs to be done to improve the power quality service provided by PLN to 84.2% of these customer complaints, while 15.8% of customer complaints that do not correspond to the incidence of power quality problems need to be socialized to customers that the complaints are caused by customers’ equipment. A deep investigation has been done on some industrial customers to find the root cause of the power quality problem and propose mitigation actions to solve the problem.
