Analysis of Partial Discharge Pulse-sequence Pattern in Air Insulation

Partial Discharge (PD) is a discharge phenomenon that occurs locally because of which the insulation and the conductor are partially connected. This work observes and analyzes the character of partial discharges in air insulation. The sensor used in this measurement is the RC Detector. The sensor will measure and forward the PD signal which will be read on the oscilloscope. The results of background noise measurements at amplitudes V
max
=140mV, and V
min
=-20mV with the RC detector sensor. The PD signal can be analyzed in terms of the PD pulse sequence pattern (PD PSA) where PD occurs. Observations occurred in 50 cycles with three voltage levels of 3.5 kV, 4.0kV, and 4.5 kV respectively. The measurement and analysis results are that the PD will be more numerous and of greater magnitude as the applied voltage increases.
