Low-cost Harmonic Generator for Education Using MyRIO

The existence of harmonic disturbances in the power system has many losses that cannot be ignored, giving rise to many studies on reducing harmonics. The first step in examining harmonic disturbances is to understand how the harmonic wave is formed, and one way is by modeling mathematical equations in simulation applications such as Simulink, Matlab, or others. However, the modeling method using Fast Fourier Transform in the simulation application has shortcomings because the analysis process is only based on the results of the harmonic signal waveform plot. In this research, the mathematical model for forming harmonic waves is implemented on a controller, namely myRio, using Labview, which has an analog output so that the formation of harmonic waves is not only displayed but generated through an analog output continuously for a more comprehensive analysis process, one of which is to test the active power filter by providing a reference signal. The simulation of harmonic signal formation using myRio will be helpful for research needs in reducing harmonic disturbances in the electricity network or for educational needs. Based on the test results, the error value between the set point amplitude of each odd order of harmonics determined by the harmonic signal that has been issued through the analog output of myRio is an average of below 10% for odd order. The test results are taken from tests carried out by forming a harmonic signal wave with the same amplitude value at every odd harmonic order except the fundamental.
