A Study of Charging Station Location for Electric Vehicles in Intelligent Transportation Systems

Due to environmental problems caused by conventional vehicles and the great technological advances in the area, the discussion about electric vehicles raised in the last years. However, there are still several obstacles to their full insertion in urban mobility, like the lack of charging stations that can serve these vehicles. This work proposes the use of integer linear programming for the charging station location problem aiming to maximize the number of served vehicles. We consider a set of

charging stations to be installed, which represents the budget of the problem. Finally, a heuristic based on the ant colony optimization algorithm was developed, in such a way that the results obtained could be compared to optimal results generated by the integer linear programming model solved by CPLEX. The solutions were compared taking into account the execution time and the results of the objective function.
