Design of an Ultraviolet Detection Device Carried on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Monitoring the Discharge of Power Distribution Lines

Ultraviolet (UV) detection technology was commonly used for discharge detection in distribution lines. However, the main method used at that time involved workers holding equipment on the ground for detection. This method consumed a lot of manpower and material resources and could not provide timely feedback on the operation of the line. To overcome these issues, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were developed to carry detection equipment for line patrol inspections, offering low cost, high work efficiency, and high security advantages. Therefore, this paper designed and manufactured a UAV carrying detection device for power distribution line discharge detection. Compared with manual detection results, this device could capture more electrical discharge phenomena of power distribution lines and precisely locate the discharge location.
