Study of Sensorless Control of IPMSM Based on Model Reference Adaptive Control with Improved Adaptive Law

According to the Popov criterion, this paper analyzes and proves that the speed identification using the commonly used model reference adaptive control method with the identity matrix linear compensator for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor has a particular defect; namely, it can only achieve speed identification within a specific speed range: the estimated speed diverges from the actual one when the given speed of rotor reach a higher level. In this paper, a new speed adaptive law is derived to enable model reference adaptive control to work effectively in the entire speed range with a newly designed linear compensator. At the same time, the identification stability of this method is proved through the Popov criterion. Finally, the simulation verifies this new adaptive law, and the results show that this method can achieve accurate identification of rotor speed and position with excellent performance.
