An Approach to Design Railway Specific Features for Critical Voice Communications

Future Railways Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is a framework standardized with the aim to revolutionize railway communications by improving operational efficiency and supporting innovative applications. The FRMCS system architecture defines three layers that comprise railway-specific applications, services that can be used by applications and transport. The realization of the FRMCS system will be in the form of Service Based Architecture, but it is regarded as a topic for further study. In this paper, it is presented an approach to design the monolithic FRMCS service stratum as a set of microservices that may be used by FRMCS critical voice communications between train drivers and controllers, shunting and banking teams. The focus is on a railway specific feature for inviting a user to join an ongoing communication as a microservice.
