Stand-alone DC Nano-Grid for a Tiny House with Droop Control

There are many rural communities worldwide, that do not have access to a public utility grid. A solar powered DC Nano-grid could provide a minimum electric grid for powering essential appliances, such as lighting and cooking. In this paper a Tiny House using a DC Nano-grid is presented. It includes solar converters, battery storage and USB outlets. The power flow and storage of solar energy in the battery is controlled via DC voltage droop control. The structure of the DC Nano-grid will be outlined including the droop control. An experimental laboratory set-up was created, which was converted into a Tiny-House in a rural location. An online dashboard is added for monitoring the power flow and battery status. Using this stand-alone Tiny House, the concept of a DC Nano-grid can be tested.
