Energy Allocation of the Community Energy Storage System: A Contribution-Based Incentive Mechanism

In this study, a relative contribution-based incentive mechanism is proposed to allocate energy from a shared community battery energy storage system (BESS) among prosumers. Relative contribution refers to the amount of energy shared by any prosumer relative to its maximum load. Consideration of relative contribution of each prosumer increases fairness and ensures equitable access to community BESS for different sizes of prosumers. The proposed mechanism is realized by formulating two indices: a contribution index to capture historical contributions of different prosumers and a proportional index for accepting energy from prosumers. It has been demonstrated through simulations that the consideration of two separate indices and their updating after each interval mitigates gaining long-term benefits with smaller contributions and diminishing the contributions of smaller prosumers. Finally, simulation results have shown the superiority of the proposed method, over absolute contribution methods, for equitable access of BESS energy to different prosumer sizes.
