A 23–44-GHz Broadband CG-Gilbert Gm-Boosted PS-VGA for 5G Application

A 23–44-GHz broadband vector-sum 6-bit phase shifter with Gm-boosted CG-Gilbert structure and a variable gain amplifier (VGA) in 55-nm CMOS process were presented. In PS, the CG-Gilbert structure with Gm-boosted capacitors was proposed to achieve broadband input matching. Dummy switch arrays and interstage inductors were utilized to reduce phase variations. Buffer stage and VGA cascades after PS were used to achieve broadband gain control. In this study, a 23–44-GHz bandwidth and a full-360° phase range with 5.625° step were achieved. The rms gain error is less than 1.4 dB. The rms phase error without calibration is less than 3.2° from 23 to 44 GHz. The dc consumption is 45.6 mW for 1.2-V supply, and the core size of the device is
$1.2\times0.7$
mm.
