A Near-Field Focused Conformal Antenna Array for Focused Microwave Head Hyperthermia

Microwave hyperthermia is an emerging medical technology that diagnoses and treats cancer based on microwave heat effects and biological effects. A near-field focused conformal antenna array is proposed for focused microwave head hyperthermia. The proposed array is formed of 2
$\times 4$
microstrip antennas, and the spatial distributions of all array elements fit well with the helmet-shaped microwave hyperthermia chamber. With differential evolution algorithm applied, the excitation weights of the antenna elements are optimized so that the electromagnetic wave radiated by the conformal antenna array can be focused at the desired position inside the helmet-shaped chamber. Full-wave simulation verifies the feasibility of the near-field focused conformal antenna for microwave hyperthermia.
