Designing a Microcontroller-Based Sumo Robot with Analysis of Thrust Parameters

The sumo robot is inspired by the traditional Japanese sport of wrestling, also known as sumo. It is a mobile robot based on microcontrollers designed for entertainment and sports campaigns. In a sumo robot competition, two robots compete in a ring. The objective of the match is to push the opponent out of the arena, which is marked by a boundary line circle. The robot that accomplishes this is declared the winner. In order to enhance the performance of a sumo robot in attacking an opponent and winning the match, a strong thrust is crucially needed. Our research focuses on the design of a sumo robot with thrust parameters. In this design, an optocoupler sensor is utilized to detect the speed of the motors. The sumo robot is controlled through a remote-control application installed on a smartphone, using Bluetooth as the communication medium. From the research results, the sumo robot was successfully controlled using a smartphone application with Bluetooth as the communication medium. Secondly, the design of the sumo robot proved to be effective in generating thrust within the range of 357.07 to 363.63 N.
