Design and Characterization of High Gain Semicircular Slotted V-Band Printed Antenna/Array with Superstrate

This paper presents the design and characterization of dual semicircular slotted planar single element and array antenna at 60 GHz. A compact single element and its $2 \times 1$ array antenna were designed and bandwidth, as well as gain, was enhanced with the use of a dielectric superstrate. The gain and bandwidth of the proposed single element were found to be 7.55 dB and 1.75 GHz without superstrate, whereas 11.7 dB and 2.48 GHz with superstrate, respectively. Gain and bandwidth for $2 \times 1$ array antenna were 10.3 dB and 5.5 GHz without superstrate and 14.5 dB and 7.3 GHz with superstrate. Good coherence has been found between simulated and measured results. The designed antennas can be used for 5G mm-wave fronthaul / backhaul applications.
