Significance of Multi-Microgrids in Optimizing the Operational Cost and Total Consumer Tariff

Modern power system is augmented with renewable energy sources because of its environmental friendliness and abundant in nature. However, uncertain and variable nature hinders the large penetration of RES into the microgrid (MG). Besides, MG provides a better environment for large scale integration of these sources. MG is formed by grouping distributed generation, storage and scattered loads. A more consistent and flexible system is needed to meet the future loads. Set of MG's are connected for energy sharing to form a multi-MG's which increases the reliability of supply and for stable islanded operations. MG's as prosumers trade with upstream networks and adjacent MG's which alters the power flow in the transmission and distribution feeders and may reduce the operational expenditure of the neighboring MG. This paper therefore, studies the importance of MMG's and its impact in reducing the operational cost and total consumer tariff.
