Confined Detonation Treatment - A Technology for Destroying Conventional Waste Munitions

In view of the high frequency and risk of the treatment of various forms and large quantity of waste munitions, by comparing with the conventional destruction methods either in China or abroad, the confined detonation treatment (CDT) is summarized and put forward based on the destruction practices. By selecting the sandy land with a good loose quality as the destruction site, which should be far away from all kinds of buildings and facilities, putting the waste munitions to be destroyed into the pit excavated manually or mechanically, at the same time, filling the bottom, middle and top of the waste munitions with explosives and placing detonating charges in the top explosive layer during the stacking process, and then backfilling the sand and soil into the pit, in this way, a large number of waste munitions can be destroyed at one time. The destruction process, applicable objects and safe technical measures of CDT are summarized in this paper, which could provide a reference for the destruction of conventional energetic hazardous wastes.
