Modified Adaptive Complex Coefficient Filter Based Speed Sensorless Control of SynRL Motor Drive for Electric Vehicles

In order to improve the reliability, robustness and cost of the system, the reduction of sensors is an essential component of electric vehicle (EV) drives. In this paper, the speed sensorless control of a synchronous reluctance (SynRL) motor for EVs is presented. For speed estimation, a modified adaptive complex coefficient filter (MACCF) is used. The MACCF reduces the DC offset present in the estimated stator flux linkages, moreover the higher order harmonics in the estimated stator flux are also reduced. The presented filter is also adaptive with speed change whenever the EV is in accelerating and decelerating mode. For effective control of battery parameters and to augment the performance, a bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDDC) is employed with the battery. A SEPIC/ZETA based bi-directional DC-DC converter (S-ZBDDC) is used. The effectiveness of the presented system is validated using MATLAB / Simulink.
